Hello everyone! We had a wonderful post-break week! We’ve really been digging deep into researching the science behind earthquakes and what it would look and feel like if an earthquake happened here in Utah. Students have been doing a great job of reading articles and other texts that really challenge them! They are pros at annotating these texts and can identify what the important details are. We held a Socratic seminar in class yesterday. Ms. Courtney and I were so impressed at their participation and ability to “respectfully disagree” with one another. The following people have volunteered to drive for our fieldwork on Tuesday to USU: Sonia Romero (4) Kayla Dinsdale (4) Shiree Case (4) Jeri Benson (3) Travis Wells (3) Kim Jenson (4) That puts us at 22 seats. If we could get just a couple more drivers, we will be set! Thanks so much for volunteering your time! Our crew really appreciates it! Student led conferences are quickly approaching! These will begin on the afternoon of Wednesday, November 15th (2-7pm). Thursday the 16th will be a special early out, and Friday the 17th will be a no-school day for conferences. Starting November 1st (next Wednesday), you can sign up using Pick-A-Time: https://pickatime.com/client?ven=11609912&event=313998 Teachers have been asked to kindly remind students and parents of our dress code policy now that the cooler temperatures are moving in. Sweatshirts do need to follow the colors that are allowed by the school. Starting next week, they will have to remove sweatshirts that do not follow the dress code. I forgot to tell the students that part of their homework is to practice the "Sid Shuffle" dance for their families. Please watch the following video for the dance and music. Please make them do this. Thanks so much! Before I wrap this up, I wanted to share a couple of precepts from our students. We are currently reading the book Wonder as a read aloud. One of the teachers in the book has a book of precepts that we also read out of throughout the week. This week, students had to come up with their own precept. It could be something original or they could quote another person. Here are this weeks precepts from Nathaniel and Ryan! "Do or do not, there is no try." -Yoda "It's not how big the house is, it's how happy the home is."
-Unknown Thanks so much for reading! Have a great weekend! Ms. Kelty
